dB Digital Broadcasting is proud to have conducted a highly successful technical trial of DAB and DAB+ in Dublin, Cork and Waterford which was in operation to June 2017.
There were three aims to the trial;
Testing signal strength, aerial array systems, indoor/outdoor reception and comparisons between DAB and DAB+.
Broadcast of text and picture data which can be displayed on receiver screens including DLS, DL+, EPG, Slideshow, RadioTAG and other technologies.
A number of new DAB exclusive radio formats were tested in addition to simulcasts of existing FM stations.
Technically, the trial demonstrated the flexibility, reliability and cost-effectiveness of DAB/DAB+. It also had a very positive response from the listening public and operators of more niche formats.
There is no doubt in our mind that DAB/DAB+ has the ability to deliver a better quality, more diverse range of radio services to listeners, and for broadcasters, cheaper transmission and new market opportunities.
We’re also encouraged that in markets with DAB/DAB+, radio listenership in many cases increases.
