Each station will operate under a Section 71 Content Licence issued by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the multiplex itself under a Section 131 licence. Single city stations expanding nationally who hold a sound broadcasting licence with the BAI require no further licence.
Section 71 Content Licences have a much lower administrative burden and compared to FM licences are granted quite quickly. These licences are granted on application and do not need to be advertised by the BAI.
Services are typically niche in nature, so generally a derogation on current affairs or speech content is possible. You are allowed to carry advertising and sponsorship in the normal way.
We have extensive experience working with the BAI on licencing and if you wish can assist in acquiring the appropriate licence for carriage on the multiplex.
