The most recent JNLR statistics on DAB ownership shows 335,000 Irish households already own a DAB radio. In five years this will reach one million.
This projection is based on measured annual increases in DAB listening in the UK and Australia by RAJAR and Neilsen/GfK between 2009 and 2014.
In 2009 Australia had just launched DAB so average growth was high, while growth in the UK was maturing as the market stabilised. The combined average of these two large markets applied to JNLR data gives a reasonable expectation of growth in Ireland.
Additional factors in Ireland such as high awareness, a substantial installed base of receivers and digital radio as standard in cars will accelerate growth faster.
